The sauna is the heart of life.

Whether it’s a new or traditional sauna experience, you should definitely say yes to the sauna. I offer guided sauna yoga sessions, drawing on over ten years of experience, as well as cupping therapy used in traditional folk medicine. At Katristein, the sauna is always heated when possible.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping is one of the world’s oldest forms of therapy and has a long tradition in Finnish folk medicine. As a form of so-called stimulation therapy, it could be compared to acupuncture. Both are based on ancient knowledge of areas and points on the body that can be used to address imbalances in the body.

Cupping has been found to help with various types of pain and tension. Cupping removes waste products from the entire circulatory system, right down to the capillaries, and increases the number of red blood cells, thereby promoting oxygen transport throughout the body. Cupping has also been shown to help balance high blood pressure and hemoglobin levels. Generally speaking, cupping helps the body activate its own healing powers. Every body is different, and cupping affects each person individually. However, the human body is wise and usually focuses on whatever needs attention at any given time.

Although learning the hygiene rules is truly important and requires precision when learning to be a cupper, becoming a cupper is an even broader process of learning and growth that continues with every encounter. I myself had the honor of learning the principles of the craft as an apprentice. It felt incredibly wonderful to become part of this long chain of tradition. At the same time, it felt as though some ancient wisdom had been passed on to me.

Sauna Yoga

Sauna yoga is a peaceful practice based on yoga movements. The heat of the sauna helps release tension from both the body and the mind. The sauna itself creates a unique, intimate, and cleansing atmosphere for the moment. This practice is also suitable for anyone who enjoys the sauna and offers an opportunity to engage in a wellness-enhancing activity regardless of age, fitness level, or physical limitations.

I’ve been teaching sauna yoga for over ten years now. It combines two things that are most characteristic of me: being with people and the sauna. I’ve held weekly classes and traveled to teach at all kinds of saunas. The groups have been incredibly diverse: work teams enjoying a recreational day, sports teams, bridal shower guests, people trying out the practice for the first time, various groups of friends, and party groups. Every time, it’s interesting to share a sauna experience together and enjoy the sense of well-being that sauna yoga brings.

Sauna yoga is also available at Katristein. In addition, you can book me for a session in the Pirkanmaa region. I also have connections to many saunas that are available for rent. Ask for more information!
